CHE vs LIL: Why Chelsea should not take Lille for granted ahead of the Champions League match

Chelsea go head to head against Lille for a place in the quarter finals of the ever exciting UEFA Champions League.

However, Chelsea should not be too confident against the French side who can be an upset for the club world champions.

The club world champions and UEFA Champions League winners face off against the winners of the French Ligue at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of the round of 16.

Lille, were a surprise in the last campaign, having beat PSG to the title they pose a threat to any team they face. Chelsea, however on paper are the favourites to win this fixture but they can be stunned on the arrival of this French champions.

Chelsea

The blues have bounced back in good form from a 1-0 loss to Manchester City to win 5 games in a row. Both Lukaku and Ziyech have been impressive for the blues and may have a chance to feature in the fixture.

CHE vs Lille:  “Neverbench these Chelsea players, as Tuchel released starting XI against Lille

However, the team of late have shown they can have a poor performance, which they will look at avoiding today if they must retain their Champions League title.

Thomas Tuchel should know about Lille in his time at PSG, although Chelsea met with the French club in 2019 with a 2-1 win in both legs.

Lille

Lille, have shown a poor run of form this season, showing dissappointing displays after winning the league last season. They currently sit at 11th position but have shown character by winning their group which consisted of RB Salzburg, Wolfsburg and Sevilla.

Any thing can happen in a two legged tie, the UEFA Champions League have seen comebacks that were amazing, the comebacks of Roma against Barcelona and also Liverpool against Barcelona, shows that a football two legged game hardly gets done in the first leg.
