Portugal’s coach, Fernando Santos, has provided an explanation for his decision to start Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench in Portugal’s 1-0 quarter-final loss to Morocco at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
During his postgame press conference, Fernando Santos, the Portuguese head coach, told reporters that he does not regret starting Cristiano Ronaldo from the bench.
He went on to say that if Cristiano Ronaldo had started, the game’s outcome would have been the same. He didn’t feel the need to make any changes before playing Morocco because they were so successful against Switzerland.
After Morocco took the lead in the 52nd minute, Cristiano Ronaldo came off the bench after sitting out the first half. Because of his poor shot selection, the former Manchester United striker contributed to his team’s loss to the African representative. People saw him sobbing uncontrollably as he left the stadium.
