Chelsea v Malmo: Team news

Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger have bolstered Chelsea’s defensive options ahead of the visit of Malmo.

The center-back pair missed Saturday’s 1-0 Premier League win at Brentford but were both back in training on Monday.

Experienced center-back Silva only returned from Brazil duty on Friday afternoon, leaving the 37-year-old short of preparation time for the Brentford trip.

Germany defender Rudiger picked up a minor back issue on national team duty and was forced to sit out the Blues’ gritty win on the road.

Hakim Ziyech could return to action but Christian Pulisic remains out.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel: “In general Malmo are a team that is confident. Still, they have a certain style and they trust it.

“We absolutely should not underestimate them. We respect them as much as any team.

“They are a very successful coach, it is a team that trusts its own style.

“I remember having a very nice holiday in Stockholm – a beautiful city, it was a very relaxing holiday. Scandinavian style of living, of thinking outside the box is very impressive and something you feel in their approach in sport.

“When you play them you feel they are confident, not shy of trying new ways to reach their personal best level. It is always inspiring.”
