WAT vs CHE: Chelsea possible lineup against Watford
Chelsea News Today: No doubt, Chelsea is still leading in the EPL table despite 1-1 draw against Manchester United in Sunday. And now, Watford is take on Chelsea to boost or maintain their point in the premier league table.
Chelsea will attempt to return to winning ways in the Premier League during Wednesday’s London derby against Watford, with the gap at the top of the league already reduced to just one point.
While Manchester United held Thomas Tuchel’s team to a 1-1 draw, the Hornets were defeated 4-2 by Leicester City in difficult conditions.
Jorginho went from zero to hero against Manchester United, allowing Jadon Sancho to gallop free and open the score at Stamford Bridge thanks to a strong touch from the Italian.
After Thiago Silva was felled by Aaron Wan-Bissaka nearly 20 minutes after his error, the Euro 2020 winner performed his typical hop, skip, and leap penalty to restore parity, though it was obviously two points lost rather than one gained for the Blues.
Yesterday’s draw shows Chelsea will struggle without these three players
Tuchel’s European champions still lead the league table with 30 points out of a possible 39, but they are now only one point ahead of Manchester City, with Liverpool still close behind and ready to take advantage of any further poor performances.
Chelsea may have drawn back-to-back home games in the Premier League, but Tuchel’s side has thrived away from home, winning their previous four league games without conceding, and they are the only team in the Premier League not to have lost on rival ground this season.
Chelsea beat Watford 3-0 and 2-1 in the Premier League last season, and have won their past four meetings with the Hornets in the league, but the Hornets famously humiliated Antonio Conte’s Blues 4-1 at Vicarage Road in February 2018.
TEAM NEWS:
Romelu Lukaku was only fit enough to make a substitute appearance against Manchester United, but he could start here, with N’Golo Kante likely to miss out.
Tuchel will also be without Ben Chilwell and Mateo Kovacic, with Saul Niguez and Ross Barkley yearning for playing time in Chelsea’s thin midfield.
Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta will undoubtedly be considered for defensive starts, while Mason Mount should be able to return to the attack.
Here is my predicted line-up for the match.
GOALKEEPER & DEFENDERS:
Mendy (GK), Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger.
MIDFIELDERS:
James, Jorginho, Barkley, Alonso.
ATTACKERS:
Mount, Havertz, Lukaku.
